Job Summary

The Vice President of Human Resources (VP HR) at Samaritan Medical Center is a critically important member of the senior management team and reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer. The VP HR is responsible for the development, recommendation and implementation of a Strategic Human Resources Plan to meet the present and future human resources needs of the Samaritan system.

The VP HR provides strategic leadership in the areas of Employee Engagement,

Talent Acquisition and management, Organizational Effectiveness, HR Operations, Leadership Learning and Development, Total Rewards and Employee Health.

This executive level position will ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing wage and hour, labor relations, employee health and wellness, the Joint Commission and other federal, state and local requirements. The VP HR will champion the ethical and social conscience of healthcare operations. The incumbent will also be responsible for the strategic human resource planning to provide Samaritan with the most qualified talent available, and to position this organization as the area’s Employer of Choice.

The VP HR will oversee the education of leaders across the system to allow us to engage our staff and ensure our practices meet our mission and vision. The successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment and strong leadership skills, to ensure that the improvement process within the facilities continues, that priorities are established, and that goals are met.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or Labor Relations, Master’s Degree preferred.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Minimum of ten (10) year, progressively responsible, administrative management experience in a hospital, with at least five years at Director Level.Experience as Vice President, Human Resources preferred. Experience in enhancing and/or developing and implementation of human resources policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation. Experience in design, development and implementation of salary administration plans and benefit programs required.Extensive experience involving bargaining unit contract negotiations, interpreting contract language, grievance and arbitration, counseling management and interaction with bargaining unit representatives is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·The V.P. HR should be a hands-on leader who can develop a strategic vision and for a diverse group of constituents.

·The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic and be able to lead in the face of adversity.

·This individual will have an appropriate sense of urgency to react to situations quickly and decisively.

·The candidate should possess a proven record that demonstrates their ability to function productively and collegially as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

·Demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of the organization as a bridge between staff, administration and key personnel.

·Directs the development of goals and objectives for the Human Resources Division that are in keeping with the Hospital's Strategic Plan.

·Develops policies and programs for the effective management of the people resources of the organization including, but not limited to employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, education and career development.

·Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the organization.

·Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and oversee a multimillion-dollar budget assuring cost effective use of available people and materials resources.

·Ability to design programs which improve employee, patient and resident satisfaction, and to empower others to do likewise.

·Ability to participate in the decision making processes, planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement initiatives. Demonstrated successes making use of data driven decision-making.

·Ability to interpret Hospital and department policies, objectives, and operational procedures. Ability to review, evaluate and recommend changes to administrative policies to ensure objectives are achieved, policies are adhered to and regulatory, accrediting and operational procedures are in compliance.

·Ability to establish a vision and plans that guide directors/managers on areas of hiring, promotions, training, job development, disciplinary actions and other personnel actions, as appropriate, and conduct performance reviews in accordance with Human Resources policies and contractual agreements.

·Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, colleagues and the general public.
